Exhibit No. 543,282 To The Irrelevance Of College Hoops Polls: UConn

So 15th-ranked UConn just dropped their third straight game, falling to a Michigan team who’s only beaten one NCAA bound team themselves (Ohio State).

↵The fans in Ann Arbor were so excited that they stormed the court, much to the consternation of CBS’s Verne Lundquist.

↵With apologies to the writers of our wonderful Huskies site, The UConn Blog, I have to agree with “Ole Uncle Verne.”

↵UConn’s two best wins right now are home victories over Notre Dame -- a bubble team -- and wait for it, William & Mary.

↵The Huskies have played against seven teams who were in my bracket projection back on Monday -- only managing to beat the Tribe and temporary Ivy leader Harvard. They dropped the other five, against Duke, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Georgetown and Pittsburgh. Yet thanks to some close losses and name recongition, the Huskies were still considered a Top 15 team.

↵What happened to the idea that you had to beat good teams to stay high in the polls?

↵Since that bit of logic has disappeared, UConn is likely to remain in Monday’s AP poll, it should be clear to even casual observers of college basketball that this is not one of the nation’s 25 best at the moment. They may not even be among the top 65.

↵Don’t get me started on North Carolina. They’re exhibit 543, 283.
