‘Hoops for Haiti’ Raises More than $1 Million, Inspires Joe B. Hall to Dance

↵
↵The headlines are filled with “Celebrities X, Y and Z Donate Money to Haitian Relief” stories and the sports world isn’t lacking in that department. Kentucky coach John Calipari led a telethon on Sunday and while they don’t have final numbers yet because of ongoing charity auctions, they managed to raise more than $1 million. Via a UK athletics press release:↵↵⇥With the efforts of Calipari, WKYT, UK coaches and players (current and former), local and national celebrities, the collegiate coaching community, local and national businessmen across the country, and more, UK raised $525,000 in funds in its “Hoops for Haiti” telethon, a four-and-a-half fundraiser to help the relief efforts in Haiti. With $500,000 in matching funds, UK raised more than $1 million.↵↵The auctions are heating up, too. (You can view all of them at this link.) The big fish of the bunch is this one, which is a dinner for six at Coach Calipari’s house with Ashley Judd.↵↵⇥Gourmet Dinner for 6 at Coach and Ellen’s house with Ashley Judd and catered by Ms. Judd’s chef, Cathy Lewis: You are bidding to become the first guests to see the Calipari’s new home with all its updates and re-designs. A limousine will take you and five friends to and from the Calipari house where you will enjoy a gourmet meal with Ellen and John Calipari and Ashley Judd prepared by Ashley’s personal chef, Cathy Lewis. The dinner will be preceded by wine and appetizers. Autographed items from Coach Calipari and Ashley for everyone in the party and all the pictures you can take! Minimum bid, $6,000↵↵The focus, rightfully so, will be on the money raised, but let us take this opportunity to watch former Kentucky coach Joe B. Hall do the John Wall Dance behind the scenes at the telethon. ↵

↵It is brief, but it is brilliant.↵
