The Buckeye Battle Cry: A Defensive Study Leads To Good Offensive Night

Over at The Buckeye Battle Cry, SB Nation’s Ohio State blog, there was little doubt that the Buckeyes would defeat Northwestern on Tuesday night.

In his postgame reaction, Eric writes that there was far more Buckeyes’ offensive efficiency on the night than meets the eye.

The offensive success came due to Ohio State’s ability to pick apart the Northwestern 1-3-1 zone defense. Thus far this season, the 1-3-1 has caused a number of teams significant problems, including Purdue. Thad Matta apparently spent two-days working with the players on their passing game and how to deal with that zone defense effectively. It was clear that the time was well spent since Northwestern couldn’t get any traction at all on defense early.

Be sure to head over to the Buckeye Battle Cry to read the entire review, a truly comprehensive post.
