ACC: Clemson Heads To Georgia Tech For Top 20 Clash
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Zachery Peacock made two free throws with 3.2 seconds left, lifting 19th-ranked Georgia Tech to a 66-64 victory over No. 17 Clemson at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Derrick Favors had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (14-4, 3-2 ACC), who were coming off a win at North Carolina on Saturday. Gani Lawal added 16 points and 10 boards in the victory.
Trevor Booker had 19 points and nine rebounds to pace Clemson (15-4, 3-2 ACC), which had its three-game winning streak broken. Demontez Stitt and Tanner Smith each scored 10 in the Tigers’ loss.
In a close game down the stretch, the teams entered the final minute tied at 64-64, but each made mistakes in trying to go ahead. Clemson’s David Potter drove for a layup that missed, and Georgia Tech’s Glen Rice got the rebound.
On the other end, Mfon Udofia lost control of the ball and was whistled for traveling with 25.9 seconds left. But the Yellow Jackets caught a break when Stitt lost possession on his drive, giving Georgia Tech the ball with 9.2 seconds on the clock.
After the Yellow Jackets called timeout, Booker was whistled for a reach-in on Peacock, who sank both attempts, and time ran out as the ball bounced around on Clemson’s long inbound pass.
