UConn Handles St. John’s In First Game Without Jim Calhoun

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Jerome Dyson posted a game-high 21 points while collecting six rebounds and passing out five assists to lead the Connecticut Huskies to a 75-59 victory over the St. John's Red Storm in a Big East Conference affair at the XL Center.

Stanley Robinson added 18 points to go with nine boards in the win for UConn (12-6, 3-3 Big East), while Kemba Walker finished with 17 points to go with six dishes. The Huskies played without head coach Jim Calhoun, who has taken a medical leave of absence.

D.J. Kennedy scored 19 points and grabbed seven points to lead the way for St. John's (12-6, 2-4), while Dwight Hardy chipped in 12 points off the bench in a losing effort.

The Red Storm was held to a lackluster 39.4 percent from the field during the opening stanza, allowing UConn to take a slight 31-28 lead into the break.

But the Huskies pulled away in the second half with a blazing 65.4 percent shooting effort, en route to the 16-point win.

The Red Storm converted just 34.3 percent from the floor and 2-of-17 behind the three-point line in the loss.
