↵After plenty of speculation that the UFC may bail from its May 1 date for UFC 113, the promotion has decided to push the event back a week. The reason? It’s all but a certainty that Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley will meet in Las Vegas on May 1. The UFC does not want to go head-to-head against a powerhouse boxing pay-per-view.
↵This afternoon, a UFC source told Cagewriter that UFC 113 was headed for May 8. This evening UFC president Dana White confirmed the date change. The switch was made possible when the Bell Centre was able to move a May 8 concert.
UFC 113 Moving To May 8
↵We all knew this was coming and while some MMA fans have made a bit of a stink about how Dana White and Co. should be dying for the chance to go heads up against this show, this move makes the most sense. The crossover audience is usually quite overstated but why put a dent in your own buyrate just to prove some meaningless point?
↵Mayweather/Mosley will do well over a million buys on PPV, UFC 113 looks like a solid 650k-750k, maybe even a little more. Have the events on back-to-back weekends and they can both be heralded as being successful. Have them go heads-up and there will be far too much focus on which one “wins.”
