Ovechkin Scores Twice, Caps Cruise Past Penguins, 6-3

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Alex Ovechkin had two goals and one assist to help the Washington Capitals double up the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-3, at Mellon Arena.

After Kris Letang took a penalty, Alexander Ovechkin and the Capitals powerplay makes him pay. Ovechkin scored on a wrist shot to tie the game up at three. The Capitals have the league’s best powerplay and it showed there with their ability to cycle the puck to find good shooting lanes.

After the Capitals take a penalty, the Penguins generate scoring chances on the ensuing power play that eventually leads to Kris Letang’s goal, which was scored even strength. This gives Letang three goals on the season.

Eric Fehr and Nick Johnson have traded goals early in the second period to tie the game up at two. The two goals were scored 28 seconds apart.

Mike Knuble scores on a rebound from an Alexander Ovechkin shot to tie the game up at one. Ovechkin drove to the net and put the shot on Brent Johnson who gave up the rebound in front of the net.

The Capitals are currently outshooting the Penguins 13-9 and both goaltenders are making their fair share of saves.

Sidney Crosby takes advantage of a couple of untimely bounces by Jose Theodore misplaying the puck for an early 1-0 lead. Theodore misplayed a puck which bounced in front of Ruslan Fedotenko. Fedotenko attempted to put the puck in, but it bounced before the line which allowed Crosby to poke it in.

These matchups between the Penguins and Capitals usually come down to goaltending and if Theodore has another issue like that, it could be over very soon.
