Martin O’Malley Forever Compromises the Integrity of Pointless Governor Bets

↵↵Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (pictured) was so intent on entering into one of those tedious and compulsory bets that governors and mayors of rival cities make prior to big sporting events that he taunted Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels as “scared” to accept a friendly bet on last Saturday’s Ravens-Colts game.↵
↵↵Well, nobody, but nobody, calls Daniels chicken. The bet was on. O’Malley put up Maryland crab cakes and Smith Island pie while Daniels wagered St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail and a sugar pie from Wick’s. One more wrinkle: the losing governor had to fly a flag of the winning team of his car for a week.↵
↵↵And as everyone knows by now, the Colts defeated the Ravens handily. The signature dishes from Maryland were sent off. And O’Malley did fly a Colts flag from his car.↵
↵↵Ah, but it was a Baltimore Colts flag. Welcher! Prevaricator!↵
↵↵There’s no lack for bitterness from those in Baltimore for the duplicity that led the Colts to vacate its former home in the middle of the night in March 1984. So, for O’Malley, this is just a small measure of revenge for that. Still, a bet’s a bet. Have you no honor, sir!?↵
