Capitals-Penguins: The First Showdown Of The Season Between Crosby And Ovechkin

The last time the Penguins and Capitals met, it was Game 7 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinals. That series saw the Penguins take the series on their way to the Stanley Cup. Ever since the lockout ended, any Penguins-Capitals matchup has always focused on the faces of each team, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin.

The Washington Capitals are still trying to get over that loss in Game 7. Here is Bruce Boudreau on the feelings that he has heading back to Mellon:

“I don’t know what the emotion is going to be like,” Coach Bruce Boudreau said, shrugging. “But to win anything, we know you’re going to have to go through Pittsburgh this year. It will be a tremendous measuring stick and it will let us see where we stand. I know they’re going to feel the same way.”

On the opposite bench, the Penguins are trying to stay with the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Frank from our own Penguins site, Pensburgh, has this to say about the game.

This is a big game and hopefully one in which the Penguins can come out on top. It's a pretty tight race between the Top Four teams in the conference and it's never too early to pick up some big points. Again, with the Caps on tap tonight, Flyers on Sunday and Rangers on Monday, now would be as good a time as any for Pittsburgh to find that winning touch. Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but if the Pens can sweep these games they could be in first place by Monday night.

One thing is that is usually true about Capitals-Penguins games is that they are rarely not entertaining.
