Light heavyweights Eric Schafer and Jason Brilz will do battle in the Octagon when the UFC airs its first event on Versus. MMA Mania with some background on the fighters:
Eric Schafer v. Jason Brilz Added To UFC on Versus
Schafer (11-4-2) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Bader at UFC 104. The Wisconsin native and jiu-itsu ace will be looking for his fifth win in his last six fights.
A wrestler hailing from Nebraska, Brilz (17-2-1) hadn’t lost a fight in thirteen trips to the cage before dropping a split decision to Eliot Marshall at UFC 103.
There are some lingering questions about Jason Brilz’s takedowns as he was completely ineffective getting the fight with Marshall to the ground. However, Schafer does tend to give up takedowns as he is quite comfortable working his very good jiu-jitsu game off his back.
The real factor that is likely to decide this contest is what happens once Brilz completes a takedown. If Brilz can avoid getting caught in a submission by Schafer then he may very well be able to work from in the guard and grind out a decision.
