It will always be an uphill battle for Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern University. For starters he has to attract players who meet the strict academic standards of one of America’s best universities, plus he is already going up against much bigger names like Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame for any good local talent he may find. Apparently Fitz can now add Illinois’ naturally flat landscape to the list of disadvantages.
As If Recruiting Northwestern Wasn’t Hard Enough Already
↵According to John Froland, a defensive lineman and recent decommit from NU, the reason for changing his mind was simple: nobody skis in Evanston.
↵
↵"When I went to Northwestern, hardly any of them skied. I went to CSU (on a visit) and all the kids are skiing and things like that."
↵
↵It’s just that simple I guess. Forget the education, Colorado State has some wicked slopes! Hey that’s the recruiting world, high schoolers have chosen schools for much weirder reasons.
