On Monday, a good deal of sports fans would’ve had trouble picking Devan Downey out of a lineup. But, um… Maybe it’s time we start paying attention. The fifth-year senior was everywhere last night, and if stats are any indication, it was no exception. He’s been doing it all year.
Have You Met Devan Downey?

Downey’s averaged 31 ppg in SEC play so far, to say nothing of his 3.5 steals-per-game. And while last night may have been his official coming out party, SEC coaches were already pretty well convinced of his talent:
↵↵“He’s willing them by himself. When everybody knows he’s going to get the ball, and he’s still doing it, that’s incredible.” — Auburn Coach Jeff Lebo.
↵“We had two guys on him the whole time, so basically his 36 were on two guys. I’ve been in the league 19 years, and the closest I’ve seen to that was when Chris Jackson scored 44 (actually 41) against us when I was an assistant at Kentucky.” — Florida Coach Billy Donovan, after Downey scored 36 points at UF
↵↵Personally, I hadn’t seen him before last night, but plan to catch him as much as possible. A 5’9 point guard that scores in bunches and drops quotes like this…
↵↵“I don’t care if I go against LeBron or Kobe, I always think I’m the best point guard on the floor.”
↵↵…What’s not to like?
