The Moment When Court Storming Officially Jumped The Shark

Remember when the fans rushed the floor in Storrs after UConn beat then top-ranked Texas all the way back on, um, Saturday?

↵Well, the 19th-ranked Huskies had a bit of a letdown tonight, as Providence defeated them at home by an 81-66 score this evening.

↵Since I was watching the Georgia-Florida and Temple-Charlotte end at the time, I didn’t actually see what happened when the buzzer sounded, but thanks to Twitter I can tell you what the Friar fans did.

↵(Of course, you probably don’t have a good idea anyway, even if my headline didn’t give it away.)

↵From Providence blogger @friarblog

↵↵#Friars win 81-66! Screw storming rules, we needed it this season!!

↵↵From Syracuse blogger @hoyasuxa

↵↵When’s the last time a team has had its fans rush the court after a home win, and then had opposing fans rush the court after a road loss?

↵↵That’s a question I’m not sure even I have an answer to.

↵I remember when fans stormed the court after claiming a conference crown or a first ever win over a top-ranked team. Last night in Columbia was a throwback to that time.

↵Rushing after an 11-8 Providence team beats a 13-6 UConn team just doesn’t seem quite the same, even if it is a win over a marquee name and regional rival.

↵Sometimes, a little perspective, or a quick look at the standings, seems necessary.
