When You Write About Your Alma Mater, Prepare For Scrutiny

I'm a blogger so I don't know much about all this journalistic integrity thingy. I'm biased. In an unhealthy way. So I can imagine that, if I did have this journalistic integrity thing going on, I'd be all kind of worried every time I wrote about my Alma Mater. I'm sure SI's Pablo S. Torre was thinking just that when he penned an article about the glorious re-birth of Harvard basketball, where he attended school.

↵Some other journos noticed the flattering article, as well as that last fact, and all of a sudden an all-out Twitter War broke out between Torre and New York Times writer Pete Thamel. Thamel say Torre went a little light on Harvard in the wake of lowered academic standards and a conference investigation into the program.

↵

↵

No need to debate. You gave a warm fuzzy hug to your alma mater. I am reminding folks of the reality. Pretty simple.

↵

↵Is Thamel right? Did Torre do his due diligence? Honestly, I don’t know for sure (too lazy to read the whole thing...like I said...I’m a blogger). All I do know is that when you write an extremely-positive article about the school you root for, prepare to get second-guessed. Comes with the territory.
