Psychic Says McNabb to Return: Take It to the Bank

While the annual drama and speculation that surrounds Brett Favre’s intimations about retirement is undoubtedly bothersome, I would argue that another yearly QB crisis that rivals the Favre saga for sheer tedium is the plight of Donovan McNabb. Every year for what seems like the last decade, the Philadelphia press and the Eagles fan base wonders aloud whether this will be the offseason that the guy is finally sent packing to another team.↵↵This continues in spite of the lack of a viable replacement at quarterback for the Eagles, coupled with the fact that McNabb is, you know, not exactly a subpar quarterback. Did he play poorly in the playoff loss to Dallas? Sure. That tends to happen when defenders are teeing off on a QB on every dropback.↵
↵↵To his credit, McNabb is keeping a good sense of humor while being battered with questions about his future during practice for the Pro Bowl.↵
↵↵⇥“I have a psychic and she told me; she said, ‘Good things are to happen in Philadelphia and it’s going to be really good for you,’ ” McNabb said while doing his best Jamaican psychic impersonation. “ ‘Just relax. You’ll get what you need.’ ”↵⇥↵⇥McNabb, entering the final year of his contract, isn’t just taking Miss Cleo’s word for it. He also has Andy Reid’s.↵⇥
↵↵↵That’s certainly a different approach than Kurt Warner saying his retirement is in God’s hands. ↵
↵↵Kidding aside, there wouldn’t be much benefit to swapping McNabb for Philly at this point. Granted, the Eagles could get a higher pick if they dealt him now, as opposed to years down the road. Or they could get nothing at all if he would walk away in free agency next year. But the Eagles offense has a bevy of weapons in place now to content. Why reset at quarterback and waste a few years, when really they need only improve on blocking to have an elite offense?↵
↵↵But then, this is Philly, where the distaste for McNabb among the media has never been based in reason.↵
