Lewis, Magic Overcome Fourth Quarter Deficit To Stun Celtics, 96-94
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Rashard Lewis scored a game-high 23 points and hit the go-ahead layup with 1.3 seconds remaining, lifting Orlando to a 96-94 victory over the Boston Celtics.
Dwight Howard registered 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Magic, who posted their fourth win in five games. They've also beaten the Celtics eight of the last 10 times in Orlando. The Magic got revenge for an 86-77 home loss to the Celtics on Christmas Day.
Ray Allen had 20 points for Boston, which suffered its fourth loss in six contests. Rasheed Wallace added 17 points, but his shot from beyond the arc at the end of the game was wide of the basket.
A three-pointer by Paul Pierce gave Boston a 92-91 edge with 1:21 left. Rajon Rondo then came up with a loose ball at midcourt for Boston. After a timeout, Rondo drove in for a bank shot with 51.5 seconds to go.
J.J. Redick's three-pointer with 41.4 seconds left tied the game, and Orlando was set up for the win after Ray Allen missed a three-point shot.
Orlando called timeout with 14.8 on the clock. Lewis then drove around Kevin Garnett on the right baseline before knocking the ball in off the glass.
Wallace's shot from the top of the arc missed everything.
The Celtics went 12-of-20 from the field in the first quarter, on the way to a 34-23 lead after 12 minutes. The same margin remained at the half at 51-40.
Allen's three-pointer moved the margin to 56-40 before Orlando trimmed the margin to seven with under two minutes left. Buckets by Tony Allen and Eddie House widened the lead to 72-61 moving to the fourth.
A three-pointer by House widened the margin to 75-61, but Orlando used an ensuing 16-4 spurt to get within one possession when Howard's hook shot fell through with 7:05 remaining.
Pierce and Rondo were chosen as reserves for the All-Star game Thursday. It represents Pierce's eighth time in the contest, while Rondo was selected for the first time...Orlando has won its last four home games...Orlando is 10-2 against teams from the Atlantic Division...Rondo ended with 11 points, eight assists and seven rebounds...Garnett was limited to six points on 2-of-8 shooting...Boston went 12-of-26 from three-point range.
