With the addition of stud defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, the Texas Longhorns have already picked up one superstar recruit today. Why not make it two? Jordan Hicks, another standout defender at linebacker, will announce his college choice at a 1 P.M. press conference this afternoon. He is ranked the number two outside linebacker in the country by Scout.com, and he'd undoubtedly provide a boon to whichever college defense he decides to join.
Star LB Recruit Jordan Hicks Set To Announce At 1 PM EST
So who are the favorites? He’s narrowed his list to three.
Texas. Hicks spent a reported three hours talking to Texas’ defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, and his high school runs a scheme that’s eerily similar to Muschamp’s much-ballyhooed attack at Texas. His mother, Kelly Justice, is also a good friend of Texas’ strength and conditioning coach, Jeff Madden, though she has stressed that the relationship will have no bearing on her son’s choice.
Florida. Florida’s had some turnover on their defensive coaching staff--namely, with the departure of defensive coordinator Charlie Strong--not to mention the uncertainty that’s enveloped the program, in general, since Urban Meyer’s bizarre retirement-then-unretirement. And yet, that hasn’t stopped the Gators from stockpiling talent, as Florida’s calmly assembled the nation’s top recruiting class for yet another year. Will Hicks add to the crop?
Ohio State. Finally, there are the Buckeyes. And while the presence of Florida and Texas might overshadow the Buckeyes as far as recruiting prowess, it’s not as if Ohio State wants for star power. If Texas and Florida are 1a and 1b in college football recruiting cache, the Buckeyes are still in the top 5. And for Hicks, a native of West Chester, Ohio, it’d be foolish to write off the in-state superpower.
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to which of those three wins out for his services. One thing’s for certain, though: whoever lands Hicks will be getting a player with enormous potential. Highlights below:
