Orlando Cabrera Close To Deciding Between Teams

Free agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera appears to be close to making a decision, according to Buster Olney:

Heard this: Today is the day Orlando Cabrera will choose between offers from the Rockies and the Reds...

In addition to the Rockies and Reds, the Nationals are also alleged to have interest in Cabrera, although Olney implies that they've fallen out of the mix.

The 35 year old Cabrera remains the same guy he’s always been at the plate - a contact hitter capable of drawing a walk and hitting the occasional ball over the fence. He’s not a threat to do real damage, but both his offense and defense are roughly on par with an average shortstop, giving him some value to teams with a need.

The Reds and Nationals can offer Cabrera the greatest amount of playing time, but those being two teams who are unlikely to content in 2010, Cabrera could opt to join the Rockies as a utility infielder behind Troy Tulowitzki, Clint Barmes, and Ian Stewart.
