Mets Ink Josh Fogg To Minor League Deal

The Mets have come to terms on a minor league contract with pitcher Josh Fogg. Fogg spent last season as a reliever with the Rockies, in which he had a 3.74 ERA in 23 relief appearances and an 0-2 record. Fogg also made one start for Colorado last season.

Fogg isn't exactly the home run of a signing Mets fans were hoping for and, as a Mets fan, I hope that this signing is to replace middle reliever Brian Stokes, who was traded to the Angels for Gary Matthews Jr.

Apparently, he chose the Mets because it was his best opportunity to make a starting rotation -- a pretty depressing thought. Last season, Fogg pitched pretty well out of the Rockies bullpen, because only allowed ~10% of his batted pitches were line drives, compared to 20% for his career. Next season, that number will likely regress closer to the career mark, leaving Fogg with virtually no positive attributes. He also stranded more runners on base than any other season in his career.

The 33 year old Fogg is joining his fifth major league club after starting his career in 2001 with the White Sox. He has also played for Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Colorado in two separate stints.
