Redskins Fire Coach Jim Zorn; Shanahan His Replacement?

The inevitable came true Monday morning in Washington when new Redskins GM Bruce Allen fired head coach Jim Zorn, a move that has been months in the making. In an official statement — via Redskins Insider — Allen said, “The status quo is not acceptable. I felt it was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building this team into a winner.”

The team is expected to announce the firing to the media at a 12:30 PM press conference on Monday. The assumption is that shortly thereafter, Washington will hire Mike Shanahan as its next head coach.

There has been no official word from Washington as of yet, but team employees are reportedly planning for the announcement to come Monday afternoon.

Charley Casserly reported today on CBS that Shanahan is already busy putting together his staff.
