Florida 62, N.C. State 61 (OT): Chandler Parsons Breaks Wolfpack Hearts

January 3, 2010 - Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Chandler Parson made a miracle three-pointer from 75 feet away at the overtime buzzer to lift the Florida Gators to a 62-61 victory over the NC State Wolfpack in a non-conference showdown.

Vernon Macklin tallied 14 points for Florida (11-3), which got 13 points from Erving Walker and 11 points from Alex Tyus.

Tracy Smith racked up 21 points and nine rebounds in the heart-breaking setback for NC State (10-4). Javier Gonzalez scored 13 points for the Wolfpack, who got 12 points from Scott Wood.

NC State led 29-27 at intermission after holding Florida to 0-of-9 shooting from three-point range in the first half.

With 33 seconds remaining in regulation, Dennis Horner missed a layup for NC State, which trailed 48-46. Fortunately for the Wolfpack, Gonzalez got the rebound and scored, forcing overtime.

In the extra session, NC State jumped out to a 56-50 lead, but the Gators scored 12 points in the final 62 seconds. Parsons’ grabbed a defensive rebound with two seconds left and heaved the ball the length of the court. The incredible shot lifted Florida to its third straight win.

Florida clearly benefited from committing only nine rebounds in the 45-minute affair.
