In Progress: No. 6 Texas Faces Challenge From No. 24 Baylor
Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Ekpe Udoh missed all 11 of his shots in regulation but poured in six points early in overtime to stake No. 24 Baylor to a lead they would never relinquish, as the Bears dealt sixth-ranked Texas yet another crushing defeat, 80-77, in a key Big 12 tussle from the Erwin Center.
Tweety Carter dropped 27 points for Baylor but nearly gave the game away with two of his seven turnovers coming at critical points in OT. A.J. Walton helped offset the mistakes by hitting 5-of-6 free throws in the extra session, including two with 10.2 seconds remaining to finish with 14 points.
LaceDarius Dunn added a dozen points, and Quincy Acy had half of his eight points come in OT, as Baylor (16-4, 3-3 Big 12) avoided a second straight heart-breaking defeat following a 76-74 decision at home to Kansas State on Tuesday.
Damion James had 20 points and 19 rebounds before fouling out in overtime for the Longhorns (18-3, 4-2 Big 12), who have lost three of their last four games since rising to the top of the polls following a 17-0 start to the season.
J’Covan Brown had five of his 15 points come in OT but missed an attempt at a game-tying three in the final moments. Avery Bradley ultimately had the last look on a set-up play with 1.2 seconds to go, but he too caught only iron.
Dexter Pittman chipped in with 14 points for Texas, whose ultimate undoing was at the free throw line, where they shot 61.3 percent (19-of-31). The Longhorns made just 2-of-4 in their last two trips to the line and were 4-of-8 overall in overtime.
