That Really Happened: Andre Miller Scores 52

The Portland Trail Blazers have spent this season on the court and in the trainer’s room in equal measure, seemingly. There are splashy charts of the injuries and grave-looking NBA records that serve as evidence of the wear and tear the Blazers have suffered. And yet, there is also hope: Despite losing Greg Oden, Joel Pryzbilla, Brandon Roy, and others for part or all of the season, the Blazers are sixth in the Western Conference.

Andre Miller delivered a little more hope Saturday night. He scored 52 points, making 22 of 31 field goals and pouring in 25 of those points in the fourth to help Portland top Dallas, 114-112. It’s partly because Miller isn’t known for scoring -- his previous career high was 37 -- and partly because this is the sort of aberrational, anyone-can-have-one-great-night performance that the Blazers might need to stay afloat in the West.

There’s plenty more perspective at Blazersedge, which did the yeoman’s work of putting together quotes, stats, and the insane shot chart (Miller took just one three) from the game. Check that out if, like me, you are still coming to grips with the fact that you live in a world where Andre Miller can go for 52.
