The Phoenix Coyotes announced today that forward Scottie Upshall will be out of the lineup indefinitely after he suffered a torn ACL against the Calgary Flames on January 28th. Upshall was in the midst of a career season with 18 goals and 32 points in 49 games. Upshall's 49 points were third on the Coyotes this season and Upshall will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season.
Coyotes’ Scottie Upshall Out Indefinitely With A Knee Injury
Our Coyotes site, Five For Howling, has this to say about the Upshall injury and its effect on the team for the rest of the season:
So what are we going to do in the meantime? Mikkel Boedker is up from San Antonio and scored in his first game back, so that's an encouraging sign. We've really spread the scoring around so that helps in terms of not being reliant on the 18-14-32 in point production even though it's still painful to lose. I would imagine that this has got to make any talks the Coyotes are having about getting another scorer even more important and more hurried to get done. I still wouldn't know who we would package to get someone like Scottie, but now it's more likely than ever that we see a new face or two before the deadline.
The Coyotes are going to need to find a replacement for Upshall’s production and fast as the trade deadline approaches. The team has plenty of cap space to add another player, but it all depends on what the team is willing to pay for that player.
