Notre Dame Holds Off Furious Rally To Upset No. 8 West Virginia
South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - Luke Harangody scored 24 points and Notre Dame survived a second-half collapse to deal No. 8 West Virginia a 70-68 loss in a Big East battle at the Joyce Center.
The Fighting Irish (14-3, 3-1 Big East) saw their 20-point halftime lead dwindle in the final 20 minutes, but the hosts were able to pull out their fifth win in six games thanks to Da’Sean Butler’s potenetial game-winning three-pointer rattling in and out at the end of regulation.
Tim Abromaitis logged 17 points and eight rebounds, and Tyrone Nash added 13 points for Notre Dame, which received six points, 10 assists and nine rebounds from Ben Hansbrough.
Butler made just 4-of-20 from the field to finish with 13 points for the Mountaineers (12-2, 3-1), who have lost two of their last three. Kevin Jones recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.
