Jeff Goodman at Foxsports.com is reporting that Baylor coach Scott Drew and the Baylor basketball program are under NCAA investigation stemming from their recruitment of a Columbian high school player.

FOXSports.com has also confirmed through sources that the NCAA is expected to be in Waco later this month to interview Drew and members of the Bears coaching staff. NCAA representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
The ongoing investigation surrounds the recruitment of 6-foot-9 Hanner Perea, a junior from Colombia who transferred to LaLumiere High School in Indiana.
The allegations are said to be about Baylor assistant coach Mark Morefield’s penchant for sending Perea text messages. He’s actually already suspended for his overly-friendly usage of text messaging. One particular text was a thinly-veiled threat that if Perea didn’t commit to Baylor, he was going to find himself back in Columbia soon after. Classy.

The incident is a black cloud hanging over a program that doesn’t need another one. The Bears had finally moved on from the murder of player Patrick Dennehy and subsequent controversy that followed. The team made it all the way to the Elite Eight last season in a signal that the program was back on its feet.
Along with last week's news that top returning scorer LaceDarius Dunn was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and suspended indefinitely from the team, it looks like the Baylor Bears are heading back to dark days...and in a hurry.
