An otherwise depressing day for the San Diego Chargers could be that much worse with the news that the team might be missing its Pro Bowl tight end in future action. Antonio Gates left the Chargers' loss in St. Louis in the second quarter after hurting his ankle blocking for Ryan Mathews on a running play.

Gates returned for another San Diego offensive series, but left to the locker room before halftime and did not return in the second half.

Gates is scheduled to undergo an X-ray and an MRI on the ankle on Monday in San Diego.
