Dayne Crist left Notre Dame's game against Tulsa today after getting hit hard near the sideline on a long scrambling run in the first quarter. He's also not going to see the field for the Irish again this year.
Dayne Crist Out For Season With Ruptured Patella Tendon
Crist reportedly has a ruptured left patella tendon, and will be out for the season. That’s a big blow to Notre Dame, which had high hopes for the highly touted Crist before this season.
Coach Brian Kelly has handed the quarterbacking duties over to freshman Tommy Rees for today's game, and he's been decent in relief, throwing for almost 200 yards and three touchdowns against the Tulsa defense. But Rees, who had just nine collegiate attempts before today, has also thrown two interceptions, and the Irish are locked in a close one with the Golden Hurricane.
If Notre Dame is going to return to a bowl game this year, Rees may have to grow up fast. Notre Dame’s final three games this season include meetings with Utah and USC.
