Pacquiao Vs. Margarito Results: Margarito Has Fractured Orbital Bone, May Have Surgery

Manny Pacquiao may have literally beaten an opponent so badly that he couldn’t see straight.

One of the results of any Pacquiao fight is the damage the surprisingly strong Filipino does to his opponents, and the brutal cut Pacquiao opened up on Margarito (warning: graphic) during Saturday night’s fight may have been just one of Margarito’s facial woes. The Mexican fighter was taken directly to a hospital after Pacquiao was declared the winner by unanimous decision, and was diagnosed with a fractured orbital bone. He will likely be kept in the hospital through Sunday night for observation, and his injury may require surgery.

The decision by Margarito’s corner to let him finish the fight against Pacquiao — Pacquiao won all 12 rounds on one scorecard, and lost just one and two rounds on the other two — has already brought some criticism, but Margarito’s toughness may be to blame.

“There was no way I was gong to quit. I’m a Mexican, we fight until the end,” Margarito said.That’s admirable gumption or stubbornness, but it might not have been necessary if the fight were anywhere but Cowboys Stadium. Texas boxing officials had previously come under fire for certifying Margarito to fight after California regulators denied him a license.
