Three FC Dallas players are among the 11 players graduating from MLS's Generation adidas.
FC Dallas Hardest Hit By Generation Adidas Graduations
While that may sound like good news, the reality is that it has a potentially negative effect on FC Dallas’ offseason decisions as all three players’ salaries (totalling $321,000) will count against the team’s salary budget. All three players will also have to be accounted for in the upcoming Expansion Draft as well.
Of those three, Brek Shea is the only one practically guaranteed to be protected. Eric Avila and Bruno Guarda both make more than $100,000 a year and neither has produced much in limited playing time. Avila has three goals (including one in the playoffs) in three seasons and Guarda has not scored since his rookie season (2008).
Shea enjoyed a breakout season this year, registered five goals and four assists in a career-high 1,797 regular season minutes. He has two assists and has started twice during the Hoops’ run to the MLS Cup final.
Of the other eight players to graduate this season, Alex Nimo is widely expected to be traded from Real Salt Lake to the Portland Timbers, the team he played with last season.
These are the other players to graduate: Nico Colaluca (New England Revolution), Roger Espinoza (Kansas City), Stefan Frei (Toronto FC), Baggio Husidic (Chicago Fire), Fuad Ibrahim (Toronto FC), Chance Myers (Kansas City), Ciaran O'Brien (Colorado Rapids).
