English Premier League Week 13 could see several stars returning to action for their clubs, but never fear-there are plenty of other injured souls to take their place on the bench. (This list is by no means extensive, but rather covers the injuries sustained recently).
English Premier League Injuries: Steven Gerrard Out, Wayne Rooney Likely To Be On Bench
Who’s out?
Steven Gerrard: Even though Liverpool told the FA not to play him for more than an hour, Gerrard played 85 minutes in England's midweek friendly against France. Unfortunately for Reds supporters, Fabio Capello did not remove Gerrard out of the goodness of his heart. The Liverpool captain picked up a hamstring injury and will be out 3-4 weeks.
John Terry: The Chelsea skipper missed last week's 0-3 home defeat to Sunderland with a mysterious ailment. It's now been determined that the defender has a nerve problem in his right leg and is in Italy for treatment, although the Blues might not see him back on the pitch for several months.
Matt Gilks: The Blackpool goalkeeper missed the second half of last week's draw with West Ham, with scans revealing that he has a broken kneecap. Gilks will miss at least two months of Tangerine play, with Richard Kingson coming in to cover goal.
Moussa Dembélé: With Bobby Zamora out, Fulham have been relying on Dembélé as their lone striker. Unfortunately for the Cottagers, the Belgian international aggravated an ankle injury in the friendly against Russia on Wednesday, leaving him out of the squad for three weeks.
Gary Caldwell: The defender has started the last four league matches for Wigan Athletic, but is back on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury against West Bromwich Albion. Manager Roberto Martinez has said it's likely Caldwell will be out for six weeks.
Who’s in?
Wayne Rooney: Rooney is back from the United States and is fit to play, although he almost certainly won't start in Manchester United's match against Wigan on Saturday. The striker last saw the field on October 16, but is likely anxious to get back on the pitch, particularly after seeing the chances Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernández squandered against Aston Villa last weekend.
Jermain Defoe: The Tottenham striker injured his ankle in England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland, but the fact that Defoe scored a goal at the same time was little comfort to Spurs fans, who've been without him for two months. They'll likely be thrilled with Defoe's early return, as Spurs face North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday.
Alex: Although the Chelsea defender requires knee surgery, apparently the Blues are so terrified of being without both Terry and Alex for an extended period of time that the club has postponed his surgery. Of course, both Terry and Frank Lampard played injured and now look what's happened...
