New Turn In Carlos Tevez Saga Sees Manchester City Captain Extend Leave From Team

According to The Guardian, Carlos Tévez has been given permission to extend his stay in Argentina, though the scenario is starting to look like a smoke-fire situation. The Manchester City captain missed this weekend's loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers after being granted leave to address what manager Roberto Mancini termed as "personal issues." Today the leave was extended from four to seven (three more) days after Tévez informed the club he's been advised not to fly until his thigh injury improves.

While Manchester City has granted the extension, consider this: Tévez suffered that injury in Manchester City's 0-3 loss to Arsenal, a match that took place last Sunday. When Tévez was granted his original leave from the team, the injury was well enough to allow the Argentina trip. Now, after Tévez has spent four days in Argentina, the thigh injury is preventing the wayward striker from returning to the team. Either Tévez did something in Buenos Aries to aggravate the injury, was hiding its severity before leaving Manchester, or ...

Well, you see where this is going. Carlos Tévez has been the subject of paper talk all season. Reports claimed he’d been unhappy with the team’s tactics, which has led to a reported rift between Tévez and Mancini. There was talk of a premature retirement and longing for a return to Argentina, all of which has made Tévez the season’s early tabloid hero. With the reports eliciting as much incredulity as curiosity, it was hard to believe the Tévez saga was anything more than a manifestation of mid-season media.

Today’s reports, however, cast a new light on Tévez’s story. This is our first real smoke hinting at a fire around City’s captain.

Tévez will remain in Argentina until Friday, missing Thursday’s visit to Lech Poznan. His availability for Sunday’s match at The Hawthorns has to be considered a doubt.
