The New York Giants and the fantasy football world received a blow on Monday when the Giants announced that WR Hakeem Nicks would be "undergoing a procedure" to fix an issue called Compartment Syndrome, which causes swelling in the leg that can cause nerve and muscle damage if not treated quickly. Nicks suffered the injury on a hit to the lower right leg on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hakeem Nicks’ Injury Will Keep Him Out At Least Three Weeks For Giants
The news couldn't be worse for the Giants coming off of the loss to the Eagles. They're already missing WR Steve Smith for another week or two so Eli Manning's fantasy football numbers can be expected to drop.
Nicks was quickly turning into one of the league’s more dangerous receivers. He was third in the NFL in receptions, sixth in receiving yards and third in receiving touchdowns. His absence will be a blow to some fantasy football teams trying to make the playoffs.
SB Nation’s Big Blue View isn’t sure where the help will come from asking the question: How much uglier can this get?
The news is disappointing on a lot of fronts, including the Giants playoff hopes. New York is by no means out of it but the road just got tougher with the Hakeen Nicks injury news.
