Disappointing news for fans of MMA as one of the most talented men in the sport will be held out of his UFC debut. Jose Aldo was set to make the first defense of the new UFC featherweight title that he was awarded for his dominance in the WEC. The UFC and WEC are set to merge at the end of 2010.
Jose Aldo Out Of First Defense Of UFC Featherweight Title
The news was originally broke on Jeremy Botter’s Twitter:
UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has withdrawn from his UFC 125 co-main event bout with Josh Grispi.
Sources close to the event notified Heavy.com of the news this afternoon.
A compacted vertebrae was causing tingling in Aldo's arms.
Aldo has established himself as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport since his arrival in the WEC. He won his eight WEC bouts with only one bout getting to the judges scorecards (his WEC 48 domination of former champion Urijah Faber). With his exciting style and the much larger stage of the UFC many fans feel that it is only a matter of time before he establishes himself as one of the most popular men in the sport, not just one of the most dangerous.
We will continue to monitor the situation for updates including any new dates, any word of injury recovery time or any changes in opponent.
