Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher Faces Up To Three Months Out With Shoulder Injury

Liverpool defender and stalwart servant Jamie Carragher is set to miss three months of action after dislocating his shoulder in Sunday's 2-1 loss away to Tottenham. Midway through a close second half, Carragher was seen writhing in pain and clutching his shoulder while aid flooded onto the pitch from the sidelines. It was immediately apparent that Carragher would be unable to continue playing although the extent of the injury was not yet known.

In an interview with Liverpool’s official website, Carragher said:

“It’ll probably be late February or early March before I look to come back. The average is about 12 weeks. I’d like to come back before that, but I’ve got to make sure it’s right”.

The now 32 year old defender who recently made his 450th Premier League appearance went on to describe his injury concerns as Liverpool continue to struggle with a mid-table position:

“It’s difficult for me when I’m injured. It hasn’t happened very often, and I’m lucky with that I suppose, but maybe it’s caught up with me a little bit now. I’ve been here before with a broken leg which put me out this length of time. It’s not easy but you’ve got to get on with it, and it makes you more determined to get back”.

Carragher's absence through injury will augment Liverpool's injury concerns as midfielder Steven Gerrard is also sidelined with a hamstring injury and won't return for some three to four weeks. Sotirios Kyrgiakos along with Martin Kelly will deputize next to Martin Skrtel in central defense while Carragher recovers.
