Walter Samuel is the latest casualty in a long list of injury victims for Internazionale, suffering a serious knee injury in the team's 1-1 draw with Brescia on Saturday.

Early in the second half, the center back collided with Brescia’s Andrea Caracciolo and had to be carried off the pitch. Later scans revealed damage to both the anterior cruciate ligament and the collateral ligament of his right knee. Samuel will undergo reconstructive surgery to repair the damage, and will almost certainly miss the rest of the season.
For the 32-year-old Argentinean, this must seem like a bad sense of déjà vu. In 2007, he sustained an injury to his other knee, requiring a similar surgery to repair similar damages. While Samuel eventually worked himself back up to full fitness and became an integral part of Inter’s impressive defense, his recovery took nearly a year, and there is little reason to believe the process will be a shorter one this time around.
Brazilian right back Maicon was injured in the same match, striking yet another blow to the Nerazzurri defense. Maicon will miss several weeks with a thigh injury, while Diego Milito, Esteban Cambiasso, and Júlio César have all missed important matches this season, causing many to question manager Rafael Benítez's training program.
