Receiving $765,000 this season, Giroux’s new deal will earn him $2.75 million next year, $3.5 million in the second campaign and a delightful $5 million in the third. Using the postseason as his personal stake of claim, he has collected 26 points in 29 playoff matches between 2009 and 2010.
He’s begun to carry over that success into the current regular season with 14 points, three powerplay markers, three shorthanded tallies and three game-winning goals already. Ask a Flyers follower who the most valuable player on the team is today, and their luxurious depth is inclined to produce a debate.
Pose that same question again a few years from now, and the answer might just be simpler because Claude Giroux is not even close to his full potential just yet.
