Chelsea Striker Didier Drogba Diagnosed With Malaria
Chelsea center forward Didier Drogba has malaria, manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed. According to the Twitter feed of The Chelsea Organisation, Ancelotti said:
He had a virus and lost power in training. We now know he had was malaria. He was given some time off and came back with malaria.
Blood tests performed on the Ivorian came back on Monday night, revealing the disease. Ancelotti added, “I don’t know where he got it from,” but considering the Didier Drogba Foundation donates nets to help protect children in his native Ivory Coast from the disease, it seems entirely possible that Drogba picked up the illness when visiting home.
Drogba spent the first half of Sunday's match against Liverpool on the bench, with pre-match reports revealing that he felt under the weather. Drogba played the second half of the match against the Reds and is said to be fully recovered. Positive news for Chelsea, who play neighbors Fulham on Wednesday, and hope to banish all thoughts of Sunday's 2-0 defeat.
However, the Blues will be without one of Drogba's forward partners, Nicolas Anelka, and will also be missing defender Alex.
