At the end of the regular season, we took a critical look at the eight teams that missed the playoffs. We assessed basic points like what went wrong, what went right, where the team goes from here and which players can be built around.
What Went Wrong, Playoff Editition: No One Is Satisfied With First-Round Exits
While the degree to which this season was a disappointment is certainly different for the four teams that had their season end in the first round, none of them are entirely satisfied with the way their seasons ended.
The Seattle Sounders, Columbus Crew, New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake can all point to areas they'll undoubtedly like to improve before the start of next season.
Within this subgroup of teams we have wildly varying levels of needed improvement. The Sounders, for instance, may be content to simply mature, while the Crew may be in for more of a rebuild.
In the coming days, we’ll examine each of their seasons and try to figure out what their off-seasons will look like.
