Brandon Jennings Injury: Broken Foot Forces Surgery, Will Miss 4-6 Weeks

Brandon Jennings has a broken foot and will miss four to six weeks of action, the Milwaukee Bucks announced Monday. The point guard injured his left foot during Saturday’s game against the Jazz, and an MRI revealed a fracture in his fifth metatarsal. The Bucks said Jennings will undergo surgery on Monday.

The already anemic Bucks offense will miss Jennings dearly, as Keyon Dooling and Earl Boykins will be asked to carry point guard duty for the league’s No. 29 offense. Jennings, a second-year player who made the All-Rookie first team last season, has hit almost twice as many three-pointers as any other Bucks this season. (Of course, he has also taken more than twice as many as anyone.) Dooling is a combo guard with a career average of just four assists per 36 minutes, while the veteran Boykins -- all 5-5 of him -- is best used in spot minutes, like a third-down back in football.

The Bucks have had a disappointing season to date, currently 10-15 and a game out of the No. 8 seed in the East with Philadelphia (the team ahead of them) surging. Milwaukee can’t afford to fall too far behind, and should general manager John Hammond worry that the 12-20 games Jennings will miss could put the Bucks in too big a whole, a trade could be in order. Milwaukee has two attractive forward in Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and Ersan Ilysova, neither of which are playing more than 26 minutes a game due to the Bucks’ depth at forward and shooting guard.
