The Utah Jazz snapped a six-game losing streak to the Cleveland Cavaliers by winning 101-90, and in the process Utah's Jerry Sloan won his 1,210th game which put him tied with Pat Riley for the third most wins ever by an NBA head coach.
Jerry Sloan Ties Pat Riley For Third For Most Wins By An NBA Coach
Sloan was asked about how he felt about tying Pat Riley during his post game interview with the media and Sloan had nothing to say about tying Riley:
I don’t have any, I don’t have any thoughts on that. “That’s not how I ever played or how I’ve ever coached. Obviously, I like to win, but I couldn’t win without the coaches I’ve had with me.”
That is typically Jerry Sloan, he does not care to be recognized for individual accomplishments. Later on Sloan mentions that the coach of the year award -- something he has never won in his 21 year coaching career -- should be an award that is a staff award instead of being an award for the head coach.
His longevity as a professional head coach is amazing. During his 21 year coaching career there have been 234 coaching changes in the NBA, while Sloan has been with the Utah Jazz the entire time. Sloan is currently only behind Lenny Wilkens (1,332) and Don Nelson (1,335) on the career win list for NBA head coaches.
