It's been a bad day for the Kansas State Wildcats basketball team. First, the Wildcats lost its two stars -- Jacob Pullen and Curtis Kelly -- to suspension after the two allegedly received improper benefits from a clothing store. Hours after the suspensions were announced, Kansas State lost again, this time to UNLV. The loss was the Wildcats' second in a row after Kansas State was dropped by the Florida Gators on Saturday.
No. 11 Kansas State Vs. UNLV: Wildcats Fall Without Jacob Pullen And Curtis Kelly,
Without Pullen and Kelly, Rodney McGruder had to step up for Kansas State. He did, for the most part, until his game was derailed by a knocked-out tooth. McGruder hit the deck hard, landing face first and sending a tooth flying. It led to an extended period on the bench and a hilarious game of "find the tooth."
Tre'Von Willis led UNLV with 16 points, taking on the bulk of the scoring load for the Rebels. Anthony Marshall came off the bench to score 11 points. Oscar Bellfield joined the two in double figures, scoring 11 points, as well. Derrick Jasper added a team-high eight rebounds.
With Pullen gone, Nick Russell took over, scoring 12 points in the loss. Jamar Samuels, 11 points, and Martavious Irving, 10 points , were each in double figures off the bench. McGruder added 11 points and nine rebounds despite the tooth incident.
The No. 11 Wildcats fell to 9-3 with the loss, their second in a row. UNLV improved to 11-2 and picked up its second win against a ranked opponent.
