Larry Brown Resigns As Charlotte Bobcats Head Coach

After making the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history last season, the Charlotte Bobcats have gotten off to a horrendous 9-19 start in 2010-11. They were just on the losing end of two blowout losses; first on the road to the lowly Washington Wizards and then at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Therefore, head coach Larry Brown has decided to resign from the team, according to a letter sent by team CEO Michael Jordan to fans.

Charlotte Bobcats Chairman and CEO Michael Jordan announced today that Larry Brown is stepping down as head coach of the team, effective immediately.

“I met with Coach Brown two weeks ago about the team’s performance and what we could do to improve it. We met again this morning after practice. The team has clearly not lived up to either of our expectations and we both agreed that a change was necessary,” Jordan said.

That makes it sound like Brown may have been fired by Jordan, but officially, the team has said that he has resigned. It remains unclear who will replace Brown on the bench, especially because the team has reportedly also fired all of Brown’s assistants, according to Fanhouse’s Sam Amick. Amick also reports that Brown’s successor will be announced tomororw.

Brown compiled an 88-104 record in two-plus seasons as the Bobcats head coach after taking over in 2008. He has 1,098 career NBA wins with nine different teams, none of which he has coached for more than four years.
