It looks like we can stop speculating about the likelihood of Ronaldinho coming to MLS, at least anytime in the near future. The Brazilian star is merely awaiting a few signatures and is prepared to sign with Gremio, his hometown team where he started his professional career.
Ronaldinho-To-MLS Fantasies Appear All But Dead
“The important thing is that Ronaldinho wants to go back at Gremio, which is his home, where he came to football,” Paulo Odone told RBS TV according to the Gremio website. The interview will reportedly air today.
This basically puts to bed the Galaxy’s effort to lure the one-time Ballon d’Or winner, reportedly for $10 million a year. Ronaldinho has been playing sparingly for AC Milan this season and was even left off Brazil’s most recent World Cup roster.
With the seeming retention of Designated Players Landon Donovan and David Beckham and the likely signing of Juan Pablo Angel, maybe the Galaxy's efforts to sign Ronaldinho were dead anyway. With those three players potentially signed as DPs, it's unclear how the Galaxy could have made room for Ronaldinho.
