Coach K notched the 880th win of his career to move past the former North Carolina coach and now trails just Bob Knight, who sits at 902 wins, for tops in Division I men’s basketball. Knight once mentored Coach K at Army.
One Duke fan in the stands held a sign that said: “You’re next, Bobby.”
While Knight is not active, Jim Boeheim (843) and Jim Calhoun (835) remain in the hunt in fifth and sixth place all-time, respectively.
Kyle Singler had 27 points and Nolan Smith totaled 26 points with five rebounds and nine assists for the Blue Devils (12-0), who have won by double- digits in 10 of their 12 games this year. Seth Curry added 15 points for the defending national champions, who have won 22 consecutive games dating back to a 79-72 loss at Maryland on March 3, 2010. Duke has triumphed in 30 of its last 31 games overall and has won 12 straight games at the Greensboro Coliseum.
