It should surprise no one that Omar Cummings is a hot property. The Colorado Rapids forward has scored 28 goals and assisted on 19 others in the past three regular seasons.
Omar Cummings Staying Put, Colorado Technical Director Says
Most recently, that interest has reportedly come from Mexican Primera side Estudiantes Tecos, whose coach José Luis Sánchez Solá.
Maybe he’s just trying to drive up the price, but so far Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo is saying Cummings is staying put.
“For us as a club, our stance is that Omar is not for sale,” Bravo told MLSsoccer.com. “We’re going to do everything that we can to try and keep him in Denver for the rest of his career.”
Bravo pointed out the Cummings still has two years remaining on his current contract, so any move would have to be approved by the Rapids and league. Cummings made just about $80,000 last year, according to salary information provided by the MLS Players Union, and he has clearly outperformed that.
The Rapids may not have to give him a raise, but considering there are many players making considerably more and producing considerably less, it’s easy to make a case for a considerable raise.
