Snowy stuff and the long MLS preseason

It’s weather only the abominable snowman could love.

I’m sorry, but I cannot help myself. I’ve just got to pick at the scab a little more.

There are those who believe that Major League Soccer simply must conform to the world’s calendar. The feeling is that MLS is somehow a lesser league, attached to permanent understudy status, because it doesn’t do things as the big boys do; the world’s most prominent associations make the magic from fall to spring.

Over here, things are a little different. I won’t go over the whole thing as I’ve covered this snowy ground before (with a helpful assist from some insightful reader comments ... thanks, guys). But let’s just take this moment to consider what kind of Wednesday whopper of an MLS match night we might get tonight? Orange balls, anyone? Good seats are most likely available!

Related, a weather system that’s dumping fluffy white on the northeast the way Jon Stewart dumps misery on hypocritical, double-talking politicians is doing nothing to assist construction in Philadelphia. Heck, it’s even gumming up the view for Union fanatics who are stuck inside, glued to images coming off that hope-providing construction cam.

Meanwhile, there’s an ESPN Soccernet piece from yours truly rounding up the top stories to monitor over the looooong MLS preseason. Or, you can check out Saturday's piece from MLSnet.com that goes a little deeper into some of the same topics.
