Colin Wilson scored unassisted on the power play at 16:50 of the second period to break a 1-1 tie and help the Predators snap a five-game road losing streak.
Henrik Lundqvist also had a strong game in goal, helping the Rangers overcome a sluggish first period. Lundqvist made 11 of his 34 saves in the opening period.
Nashville (32-22-5) opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Jordin Tootoo at 17:45. Kevin Klein and David Legwand assisted on Tootoo's third goal of the season.
The Rangers tied it at 1-1 on a power play goal by Vaclav Prospal at 9:48 of the second period. On a 5-on-3 power play, Olli Jokinen slapshot rocketed off of the backboards and onto the blade of Prospal, who snuck one past Ellis for his 12th goal of the season.
Gaborik, who leads the Rangers with 34 goals and 69 points, suffered a cut on his right leg in practice Tuesday and was scratched from the lineup two hours before the opening faceoff. Gaborik is listed as day-to-day.
