Chris Kunitz scored two goals and Evengi Malkin had a goal and an assist as Pittsburgh defeated the visiting New York Islanders, 3-1, Wednesday night to snap a two-game losing streak.
Kunitz Scores Twice to Lead Penguins Past the Islanders, 3-1
Pittsburgh (36-22-2) scored twice in the second period to take a 2-0 lead and Marc Andre Fleury stopped 37 of 38 shots to lead the Penguins to a seventh-straight victory over the Islanders (24-28-8).
With Kunitz scoring his first two goals since Dec. 22, Pittsburgh snapped a two-game losing streak, which included a 5-4 loss at Washington Sunday in a game the Penguins led 4-1.
Kunitz opened the scoring at 10:33 of the second period, scoring only his seventh goal of the season. Malkin assisted on the goal and added one of his own at 17:00 of the period to make it 2-0.
New York got on the board on a goal by Frans Nielson midway through the third period.
Pittsburgh got the goal back about five minutes later when Kunitz beat Dwayne Roloson on a wrist shot from the low slot. Kunitz hadn't had a two-goal game since March 15 against Boston.
