The NBA really isn’t doing this All-Star replacement thing well. First, they picked Chris Kaman over Carlos Boozer (and others) to replace the injured Brandon Roy. Now, it’s David Lee and Jason Kidd to replace Allen Iverson and the injured Kobe Bryant, according to Marc Stein.
Two All-Stars Out, Two More Undeserving Replacements In
↵Lee’s not an abysmal choice, I guess, because he is having a very good year. But this means that Josh Smith is getting snubbed once again, even though his two inferior teammates are on the All-Star team. The fact that Smith is not on the All-Star team is a travesty, and anyone who watches the Hawks closely would tell you the same.
↵On the other hand ... Jason Kidd? Really? Sure, he’s a hometown guy, and sure, he might as well be grandfathered into the game because of his ability to throw lob passes. But while he’s warded off Father Time well, he’s also not playing at close to an All-Star level. How can you justify Kidd over, say, Tyreke Evans of Sacramento or even Baron Davis of the Clippers? You can’t. Plus, Kidd of all people needs the rest All-Star Weekend provides because of his advancing age.
↵I know, it’s just an All-Star game, but it’d be nice if the NBA rewarded guys who really deserve it.
